The seventeenth-century garden of Denone
Built in 1550 by the Marillac family at Effiat, Denone stands in the middle of a garden laid out in the seventeenth century, bordered by moats to the west and by outbuildings to the east.

Château de Denone is a château at Effiat, Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The recorded building campaigns date from the 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. It is protected as a monument historique at the second level (inscrit). Details are drawn from the Base Mérimée of the French Ministry of Culture.

The record places the château precisely: at the centre of a seventeenth-century garden, with moats on its west side and, on the east, outbuildings partly of the same century. The house itself is two perpendicular wings with three round towers at the outer corners, and keeps on the first floor two beamed ceilings painted at the end of the sixteenth or beginning of the seventeenth century. The 2009 listing covers the château in full with its painted ceilings, the whole parcel around it with the ornamental pond and the eighteenth-century gate, and the outbuildings, including a seventeenth-century farm with its barn-byre.
