The former moats of La Luzerne
Rebuilt around 1585 on the site of a fortress razed by Louis VI around 1112 and refortified in 1417 to shield Orléans, La Luzerne at Chambon-la-Forêt keeps traces of its former moats to the north and west.

Château de la Luzerne is a château at Chambon-la-Forêt, Loiret, in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The recorded building campaigns date from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is protected as a monument historique at the second level (inscrit). Details are drawn from the Base Mérimée of the French Ministry of Culture.

The record tells the site’s military history and describes a rectangular house flanked by narrow pavilions on the north and, on the south, by two towers fitted out in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, remains of the old fortress. Traces of the former moats survive to the north and west, and a group of outbuildings stands to the west. The façades and roofs were listed in 1986. The Base Mérimée records a garden among the site’s features; the moats are what the record describes of the grounds.
