The pleasure park and garden of Mongenan
Built around the middle of the eighteenth century by a Bordeaux merchant at Portets, Mongenan is listed first of all for its pleasure park and its garden, named ahead of the buildings in the 2003 protection.

Château de Mongenan is a château at Portets, Gironde, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The recorded building campaigns date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Its architecture is recorded as Neoclassical architecture. It is protected as a monument historique at the second level (inscrit). Details are drawn from the Base Mérimée of the French Ministry of Culture.

The record describes a main block with a perpendicular north wing remodelled in the nineteenth century, interiors that keep most of their original decoration, and in the wing the old chai, the sharecroppers’ house, the stable and rooms turned into a museum. The 2003 listing opens with the parc d’agrément and the jardin du château before naming the house, the wing of dependencies and the former pigsty. The garden is thus at the head of the monument; the record does not describe its planting.
