The great terrace and moats of Sourches
Sourches in the Sarthe took its present form between 1761 and 1780 under the architect Pradel; its cour d’honneur and moats were classified in 1947, and in 2022 the great terrace with its vaulted passage and the stable block with its horse-bath were listed.

Château de Sourches is a château at Saint-Symphorien, Sarthe, in the Pays de la Loire region of France. The recorded building campaigns date from the 15th and 17th centuries. It is protected as a monument historique at the higher of the two levels (classé). Details are drawn from the Base Mérimée of the French Ministry of Culture.

The record’s history is two sentences: the château acquired its present aspect in the eighteenth century, with works from 1761 to 1780 directed by Pradel. The 1947 classification names the façades, the cour d’honneur, the moats and the chapel; the 2022 listing adds the whole of the interiors, the great terrace with the vaulted passage joining it to the basement, and the coach-house and stables with their pédiluve. The terrace and the water around the house are what the record gives of the grounds.
