The castle grounds of Vendôme
The ruined castle of Vendôme, classified since 1840 and re-listed in 2021 with its banks, ditches and the rise called La Montagne, is today a public promenade of lawns and old trees within its walls.

Château de Vendôme is a château at Vendôme, Loir-et-Cher, in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The recorded building campaigns date from the 12th and 14th centuries. It is protected as a monument historique at the higher of the two levels (classé). Details are drawn from the Base Mérimée of the French Ministry of Culture.

The record describes the northern enceinte of the twelfth and fourteenth centuries with four towers and a curtain, the Tour de l’Éperon as a former stair tower, and a southern part of the fifteenth or early sixteenth century. The 2021 listing extends the protection to the remains of the keep, the south and west curtains, the Tour Saint-Lubin, the banks and ditches to the south and north — notably La Montagne — the captain’s house, the powder magazine and the walls of the ramp. The lawns and cedar within the walls are documented by the photograph rather than by the record.
