The terraces and clipped-box garden of Viven
Built by the marquis Jean César de Mesplès, a leading figure of eighteenth-century Béarn society, Viven keeps terraces with the remains of a garden of clipped box, listed in 1989 with the château and its outbuildings.

Château de Viven is a château at Viven, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The recorded building campaign dates from the 18th century. It is protected as a monument historique at the second level (inscrit). Details are drawn from the Base Mérimée of the French Ministry of Culture.

The record describes how the marquis replaced the old manor with the present château, stables, barns and farmyard, surrounded by arable land, vines and woods, and how the interior decoration of the 1750s and 1760s — panelling, stucco, painted canvases of oriental inspiration — makes it the finest eighteenth-century château of the Vic-Bilh. The 1989 listing names the terraces with the vestiges of the clipped-box garden, alongside the façades, the great salon, billiard room and dining room, and the dovecote.
