The moats and park of Château du Pailly
Built between 1563 and 1570 by Gaspard de Saulx-Tavannes, companion in arms of François I, the Renaissance château of Le Pailly rose from a medieval castle of the plain whose moat still frames its lawns.

Château du Pailly is a château at Le Pailly, Haute-Marne, in the Grand Est region of France. The recorded building campaigns date from the 14th and 16th centuries. It is protected as a monument historique at the higher of the two levels (classé). Details are drawn from the Base Mérimée of the French Ministry of Culture.

The record presents Le Pailly as a witness of the Burgundian and Champenois Renaissance, raised on an older lowland castle with a massive oblong keep of the early fourteenth century and a trapezoid of curtains and lodgings flanked by round towers. Sold as national property at the Revolution, it remained private until 1936 and was given to the State in 1963; it was classified in 1921. The record says nothing of the grounds. The lawn and moat of the park are documented only by the photograph.
