Orto Botanico di Bergamo "Lorenzo Rota"

Bergamo’s botanical garden was inaugurated on 17 June 1972, following a project begun in 1969 by Luciano Malanchini and Guido Isnenghi. Its origins were civic rather than academic. The Italian environmental institute ISPRA describes thematic beds devoted largely to native flora, including woodland, alpine and aquatic environments.

Editorial reading

Editorial interpretation: the civic origin offers a way to understand the garden as a public botanical initiative. Its thematic beds invite comparison between plant communities associated with different environments.

Recommendation

Compare the thematic planting areas and consult the garden operator’s current information for the particular Bergamo site you intend to visit. Check access arrangements before travelling.
